This course will address the medical errors and patient safety for practicing nurses. Diagnostic errors are frequent in clinical practice and lead to adverse patient outcomes. There is no question that medical errors are an issue in our health-care system. In addition to human suffering and loss, the financial cost of medical errors in US hospitals is at roughly $25 billion annually. The value of medical errors spans across other avenues such as loss of trust in the health-care system by patients, less satisfaction by both patients and health professionals, lost worker productivity, and lost school days for children.
